What is Citation?

A citation or bibliographic citation is a reference to a book, article, web page, or other published item, (personal communication), with sufficient detail to identify the item uniquely. There is a variety of citation systems and styles, but the most used at DACC is APA, while MLA and Turabian are occasionally used.

Why do we need to use citations?

There are two imporant reasons for citing.  First, keeping track of sources is important because academics value being able to trace the way ideas develop. Second, it is only fair to give credit to those that created the ideas or works.

What is APA?

APA style is the official style of the American Psychological Association and is normally used to cite the sources in psychology, social sciences and education. Most instructors at DACC choose to use APA style.

What is MLA?

MLA style is defined by Modern Language Association, which is used in writing on languages and literature, and other humanities.
